a Class G licence is a two step process.
To enter level one,
Class G drivers must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision test and
pass a written test of their knowledge of the rules of the road.
Level One lasts 12
months, but this can be reduced to 8 months if the new driver passes an
approved driver education course. A Level One driver:
- Must not drive
if they have been drinking (zero blood alcohol level)
- Must have only
one passenger in the front seat and that person must have been licensed
with at least 4 years experience.
- Must limit the
number of rear seat passengers to the number of seat belts available.
- Must not drive
on 400 series highways, Queen Elizabeth Way, Don Valley Parkway, Gardiner
Expressway, E C Row Expressway or Conestoga Parkway.
- Must not drive
between the hours of midnight and 5 am.
- Must drive Class
G vehicles only.
Level One drivers
MAY NOT need to be reported to insurer. They
do not have to be declared to any insurer we represent. Check
with your insurance advisor.
At the end of Level
One, drivers must pass a road test to proceed to Level Two.
Level Two lasts a
minimum of 12 months. Level Two drivers:
- Must not drive
if they have been drinking (zero blood alcohol level).
- Must limit the
number of people in the car to the number to seat belts available.
- Must drive Class
G vehicles only.
Level Two drivers
MUST be reported to the insurer.
Full Class G licence
privileges can be obtained by taking a road test.
