What affects your premium
Can I save money if I increase my deductible?
Yes you can, but the
savings may not be worthwhile.
If you increase your
collision deductible from the standard $300 to $500, the savings could
be a significant or only a few dollars. We believe that the combined savings
in premium over 3 years ought to be equal to or greater than the increase
in deductible. Therefore we divide the change in deductible by 3 and arrive
at about $70 which represents the annual premium savings that you ought
to have in order to justify an increase to your deductible. The logic
can be applied to policies with more than 1 car, in which case it is easier
to rationalize a higher deductible. The only important fact to keep in
mind is that you must be ready to pay a higher portion of a claim.
With most insurers the standard deductible is $300 for All Perils, Collision and Comprehensive coverages. A few insurers have higher standard deductibles. Insurers often require higher deductibles for high valued cars. Our Online rating presents our best price for $300, $500, and $1,000 All Perils deductibles.
It is possible to split All Perils coverage into separate Collision and Comprehensive coverages and have different deductibles. We do not quote this Online, but we can provide a quote by telephone.
